How does Reductil assist in weight loss?
Reductil is a neurotransmitter reuptake inhibitor and maintains brain’s natural level of chemicals called serotonin and norepinephrine. The active ingredient in Reductil is a substance called sibutramine, which directly targets these chemicals in nerve cells, prevents these from being reabsorbed into the cells, and gives a feeling of fulfilment from eating. This results in lesser amount of food intake and consequently, weight loss.
Is Reductil clinically proven for use in weight loss?
In clinical trials, 6000 patients suffering from overweight and obesity issues were given Reductil or placebo to measure the efficacy of Reductil. At the end of the trial after a year, the safety as well as the efficiency of Reductil was demonstrated in the double-blind, placebo-controlled trials. Reductil was found effective and well tolerated in clinical trials
Will I be able to obtain a prescription for Reductil?
If you are overweight, or have a body mass index of 30 or more; 27 or more if you are suffering from associated health problems such as type 2 diabetes, or high blood pressure, you might be able to obtain a prescription for Reductil. You can also obtain a prescription for Reductil online.

What is the recommended dosage of Reductil?
Reductil comes in two dosages strengths of 10mg and 15mg. You can take Reductil once a day with or without food. Your doctor should decide the dosage and the treatment duration. In any case, Reductil should not be taken more than a year.
Will I suffer from any side effects after taking Reductil?
Most prescription and some over-the-counter drugs cause side effects. Reductil too may cause side effects such as dry mouth, nausea, insomnia, diarrhoea, vomiting, and light-headedness. It is very important to note here that not everyone or even any one will suffer from all or any of these side effects.
Are there any precautions for Reductil?
People above the age of 65 years and children below the age of 18 years should not take Reductil. Apart from these, below are some of the precautions for Reductil:
- History of severe eating disorders such as anorexia nervosa and bulimia nervosa
- Psychiatric illness: Reductil could induce a manic episode in those with manic/depressive disorders
- If you have Tourette syndrome (uncontrolled movements)
- History of coronary heart disease (angina, previous myocardial infarct, CABG or angioplasty) heart failure, stroke or TIA, dysrthymias and peripheral arterial disease.
- Inadequately controlled hypertension i.e. BP >145/90
- Hyperthyroidism
- Severe liver impairment
- Severe renal impairment
- Benign prostatic hyperplasia with urinary retention
- Glaucoma
- Pregnancy and lactation
- Alcohol and drug abuse
